General Anaesthesia
General anaesthesia is a way to make a patient completely unconscious, so they feel no pain or discomfort during dental procedures. It’s done safely in a hospital or private clinic, with a skilled anaesthetist always on hand. This option is usually considered when other sedation methods aren’t suitable.
It’s especially helpful for young children or uncooperative patients who need a lot of dental work done quickly. With general anaesthesia, treatments like fillings, extractions of baby or adult teeth, and more can all be done in one session. This saves time and avoids the stress of multiple visits for both the child and their parents.
A paediatric anaesthetist is always involved for children, ensuring everything is safe and comfortable.

Sedation
Sedation is a process used to establish a relaxed, easy and co-operative state amongst very anxious dental phobic patients. It is performed on both adults and children in the dental clinic with or without a qualified experienced anaesthetist.
The patient sits comfortably on the dental chair as the sedative is administered nasally and/or intravenously, allowing the dentist to start to work within a few minutes. It’s a time-saving procedure as most dental treatment can be completed in one session, this including any restorative, cosmetic or surgical procedures.
Once over, the patient has little or no memory of the treatment performed and is able to return back home immediately, as long as they are accompanied by a guardian/driver.
